First Term At Malory Towers

I read the book ‘First Term at Malory Towers’ by Enid Blyton. I read this book in this crazy hot summer.  There are 22 chapters filled with the adventures of Darrell Rivers, who is the protagonist. She cannot wait to join her new boarding school. She boards a long train labelled Malory Towers from platform no. Seven and meets her folks at the North Tower Compartment. Malory Towers has four large towers and has a castle-like look. Green creepers crept all over the towers.

Darrell’s first friend at Malory Towers was Alicia, but Betty is Alicia’s best friend from West Tower. Her other friend, Sally Hope, is known as an obedient and intelligent girl. Darrell’s other friends are Mary–Lou, who is a coward but sensible; Gwendoline is a very spoilt girl, Katherine is the head girl of the first formers, Emily is a quiet girl and loves sewing; Jean is one of the first formers, and Irene is a smart girl and loves music. The Matron takes care of the girls and is very kind. Miss Potts is the class teacher of first formers and Mam’zelle Dupont and Mam’zelle Rougier are French teachers of first formers (who do not like each other much).

I recommend everyone to read this book because the story is based on life in a boarding school and the book is full of mischief, friendship, trouble, teasing, and fun. I loved reading this book because while reading, I thought that I was a part of the book, and it was a remarkable read.

My favourite character is Sally Hope. She is very quiet, obedient, clever, and has mind-blowing ideas in her head.  Darrell and Sally jelled well but once fought. Darrell pushed Sally, and she got hurt in her stomach. Darrell thought it was her fault that Sally was in pain. Later, it was detected that she had appendicitis. She was in the San (students who are not feeling well must rest in the San) for 2-3 months. But after that, they both became best friends.

If I were a part of the story, I would not let Alicia pull Mam’zelle Dupont’s leg, saying that she had turned deaf and could not hear anything. Alicia was mischievous, and she did not play a prank on anybody since many days. When she really could not hear because she stayed underwater for a long time, when they all went swimming, nobody trusted her.

Reading stories from school series is fun and has helped me learn many life lessons – to be smart and to handle circumstances like when someone is unfair to you or is cheating on you and how to deal with crook friends in my society or school.

I am looking forward to reading more books about Malory Towers and enjoying more such adventures with Darrell and her friends.
