The Alchemist

book review by children
Author: Paulo Coelho
Book Review By Sreejani Sen

The protagonist is a shepherd who decides to travel across Egypt, to the Great Pyramids in quest of a treasure he finds in “recurring dream”. However the book has been divided into two parts.

One – deals with the shepherd and his meet with the King of Salem, Melchizedek(God in disguise) making Santiago realise of Urim and Thummin (the two stones that resonate the omens of God) because God always keeps us showing a path and the heart conceives to head towards the destination.”To realise one’s destiny is a person’s only real obligation.” Love, the strongest power and the Language of the Soul always shall help to “choose between something he had become accustomed to and something he wanted to have .

Two – it deals with the strenuous journey through the vast expanses of the desert. Learning about the” The Elixir of Life” – a liquid part and “The Philosopher’s Stone” – the solid part that aids in purification of metals like gold.

“Alchemy could be learned in one’s daily life.” There’s no need to travel for miles, crossing hurdles to seek the treasure. The real treasure is what lies in the heart. One should seek the treasure of the present day. Living in the present and not to ponder over the past or to overthink the consequences of the future. “The darkest hour of the night came just before the dawn.” So life is all about perusing the dreams without the fear of losing all that we have acquired over the years. A MUST READ FOR ONE AND ALL
