I Swapped my Brother on the Internet

My book review is about the story I Swapped my Brother on the Internet by Jo Simmons.

Do you ever want a break from your brother or sister? Okay, then this book is for you! You will feel better because you are too busy laughing. (Confession – I am an only child, so I only know what my friends have told me.)

In the book, Johnny’s brother Ted is always picking on him. Right after Ted makes fun of him, Johnny turns on his computer and is stunned by the message on the screen:

Sometimes you don’t get the brother or sister you deserve but here at swibling swap, we aim to put it right. With so many brothers and sisters out there we can match you with the perfect one.

Johnny decides to exchange his brother for someone else! He is delighted and even asks for someone his age or younger. Johnny doesn’t put a tick on the the human or living boxes because he thinks the site only sends living human beings. But that leads to some interesting brothers. The new brother ‘MERvyn’ is a MERboy, and he decides to go back to the sea. One by one, new brothers turn up, but everyone has something that doesn’t work for Johnny. Surprisingly, Johnny starts to think about Ted more and more. Finally, he thinks “I swapped my brother Ted but he is the best brother I can have!” Now, Johnny has to find a way to get his brother back. Will he? Read the book to see if there’s a happy ending.

I Swapped my Brother on the Internet is very entertaining. It teaches you living with others can be difficult, but you must be happy about what you have. I definitely recommend this book to kids 8 – 12.
