Virtual Reading Hour for Children In Classes 1 & 2.
How do we foster a love of reading in children?
By reading with, and to them. Our Reading Hour is a series of 8 sessions where we read age-appropriate and engaging books to children. Through careful planning, we will build our participants’ background knowledge, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.
Our sessions accommodate a maximum of six participants, allowing us to engage all children in meaningful discussions and develop their comprehension skills. Participants will learn to make connections, predictions, and inferences. They will also work on identifying the theme of the story, understanding the author’s writing style, and developing their questioning skills to monitor their comprehension.
The books we choose for the Reading Hour will provide insight into diverse cultures and backgrounds, thereby widening the participants understanding of the world.

If your child misses a session, we can offer only one complimentary replacement session. Please provide us with one week’s advance notice to make the arrangements. There will be no reimbursement for missed sessions.
A parent or other adult must be nearby to assist the participant in managing the screen in the event of a problem. Participants will receive a homework assignment that they must complete, scan, and email back to us by the following Monday. If you choose not to print the assignment, please copy it neatly onto a writing paper.
Please note that this is not a remediation or intervention course. While we will work to meet kids where they are, this setting is not conducive to exclusive individualized attention.
