A Journey Back Home

I recall the days when silence …. loud, seemingly deafening silence
Was a voice bound to reach my ears
And a cold desolate plain was all I could see in the distance
A sight that, to my eyes, brought nothing but frequent tears!
The paradise I thought space to be
Came after quite a difficult and wistful journey,
For even though I got to see the Moon, Mars, and Jupiter in all their glory
They were none like the Earth and will never be!
As I spent the last few moments revolving around the moon
I avidly pondered about all my struggles and discomforts
Whether it was the itch of the suit, the broken toilet, or the soggy food
Believe me, lads, for this is no falsehood.
With resolve, I got up from the bed upon which I lay
And pushed away my thoughts of sadness and dismay
As it is time for me to enter the command now
That would launch me off from the moon’s gravity and take me home, as planned.
With a 6000 Pound Thrust Engine,
the spacecraft sped at a supersonic pace
It was indeed a masterpiece invention
Which propelled me at 20000 miles per hour, a complete craze!
Zooming past were so many planets and stars
Sparkling, twinkling, and shining bright
And even though I have seen them before,
They were still a wonderful sight to behold!
Just when I was about to reach the Earth again;
the planet that had always given me glee
I could not contain my happiness and therefore screamed with delight:
“O, BEAUTIFUL EARTH! Set me free!”
No matter how far I travel into Space
And be part of those who unravel mysteries
There will always be a desire in me though
To come back, live on the earth, and be one among beautiful beings.
