Appaka by Sreelatha Radhakrishnan is a about a small girl Nonnu and her pet goat Apakka. Nonnu lived with her mother and her uncle, Pappu Mama. One day, a baby goat came to their house. It looked so thin that Nonnu gave it some food. Nonnu’s mother also agreed because she thought it will be there for a few days only. They waited for the owner to take the goat back, but nobody came looking. So Nonnu kept the baby goat as a pet.
Nonnu loved Appaka and took care of her. She gave her leaves from the jackfruit trees and even made a ribbon for her pet. But one day, Appaka went missing. Nonnu looked for appaka everywhere but she couldn’t find her goat. She even went to the temple to pray for Appaka. Do you think she will find Appaka? Read the book to find out.
I think this is a good book for children to read. Nonnu’s family don’t look like they are rich. But still she gave the baby goat some food. The family shared whatever they had with their pet. That was very nice of them. I felt happy that Nonnu got Appaka as a pet. I don’t have any pet but my neighbour was missing his cat. He was super sad when he lost the cat. Later his mother got him another cat.
