Building Comprehension using Interactive Read Aloud

Reading aloud with children is an essential tool in developing a joy of reading. How can we ensure that they build essential literacy skills as well?

Interactive Read Aloud

An interactive read-aloud is an evidence-based strategy to develop vocabulary, background knowledge, and comprehension skills. It is a shared reading experience where the teacher reads a book aloud and pauses intermittently to engage listeners using questions, predictions, movement, and discussion. The ‘how’ of the reading experience is as important as the ‘what’ in building these skills in the young reader.
