I like every books as they are the only true friends of human beings. But among all the books I have, I’ve enjoyed a story-book the most. It is written by Sudha Murty and is named after ‘The Magic of The Lost Temple’. I have received this book in the form of a present from my parents. The main characters of the story include one of Sudha Murty’s grand-daughter, Anoushka, fondly called Nooni, her mother – Usha, her father – Shekhar, her paternal grand-parents, her friends – Mahadeva, Medha, Amit and Anand.
This book is about a girl, Nooni who lived in Bangalore with her parents. In her Summer Vacation, her parents decided to send Nooni to her paternal grand-parents in a village named Somanahalli. There Nooni had a lot of new experiences and adventures. She learned to make papads and pickles, saw village wedding, live crops and a variety of unknown flowers and plants. She also visited the Varada river bank, the Varada hill and a forest with her friends. Moreover she learned to cycle which she never have learned in Bangalore. The most most essential thing that she came to know was love, care and unity. Nooni experienced the real happiness among the villagers who were just like a family.
This story mainly takes place in Somanahalli. The setting of the story is one of the reasons for which I like it so much. As I don’t know much about a village, this book is the perfect one for me to know about the traditions and livelihood of the people living in this place. The short story of the king Somanayaka who once rulled the village told by Nooni’s grand-parents was totally astonishing.
I recommend this book to everyone whoever is eager to explore a village with the help of a little girl – Nooni or loves to read story books about this type of places. I am sure that no one will hate this awesome piece of book after reading. Also a mystery of a lost Stepwell is hidden in the story to make it a lot more interesting and adventurous. This book had let me dive deep into the world of imagination making it the most favourite story book of mine.
