Percy Jackson – The Lightning Thief

Children's Book reviews
Author: Rick Riordan
Book Review By: Snigdha Ahuja
Class: 6

Percy Jackson thinks he’s just a bad kid with ADHD (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and a learning disability until he learns that he is the son of an ancient Greek god, Poseidon, the god of the sea. He goes to Camp Half Blood, a safe place for people like him, for demigods. He finds out he is a suspect for stealing a powerful weapon from the gods, and embarks on a dangerous quest to remove this accusation and to stop a war between the gods.

Percy Jackson is the protagonist in this series of books. He is a hero destined to save the world but doesn’t know how to. He is followed by Annabeth Chase, a wise and courageous demigod and Grover Underwood, a satyr who wants to have some fun.

The events in the book takes place where modern world and ancient Greek mythology is mixed together in a hilarious chain of events. The genre is fiction and adventure and the author teaches us history without us realizing it.

It is an absolutely delightful book to read with suspense and the sense of thrill as you read on. It is suitable for all ages, and is attention-catching. Once you pick it up, you cannot put it down! Everything about the setting and the storyline, is simply marvelous!

Rick Riordan has created a completely new world, which is no easy feat, I might add. The characters have a sense of humor, seriousness and goofiness, the perfect mix.

To all the bookworms reading this, I highly recommend reading this book from the nearest library, or borrowing it from a friend. Will this half-boy, half-god, all hero be able to catch your eye?
